History of the 11 day Regular Guaranteed Departure Tours.
First time we introduced 11 day standard itinerary in the season of 2006 year instead of former 11 day itinerary which included 2 nights in Moscow and 8 nights on Elbrus.
Since 2006 the 11 day program is completely in Elbrus area. The 11 day program is for those who want to spend more days in the region either for better acclimatization or to have hikes besides Elbrus itself.
Since that time the destination became more and more popular which brought some additional problems. Several years ago mostly skilled and shape people came to climb. Now more and more people come absolutely without any previous experience in mountains and with very different shape. This does not affect strong climbers in a group because they go their own pace with one of guides while less experienced participants go their own pace with another guides but season by season that slightly reduces 'average' success rate of public groups.
However average success rate stays pretty high - about 80 percent. Please do not be disoriented with this higher rate in comparison with average rate for Mt. Kilimanjaro climbs. Elbrus is definitely harder than Kili and that high rate is only because of hard work of guides in groups.

2008 year season.
2008 season had worse weather than normally. Particularly August and September were pretty rainy.
There was good yearly rise of requests but many people cancelled their trips in August because of war in Georgia. The war had absolutely no affect on North Caucasus and Elbrus region but its 'publicity' was high in Western mass media. That is why number of tourists in Caucasus had no big rise in 2008, however in common there were still more visitors than in 2007.

2009 year season.
2009 season had colder weather than normally. Particularly mid July - mid August period was rainy. It seems that was the worst season regarding weather for the last 5 years. Normally weather allows to go and even if it is bad some participants still can reach the top. In 2009 year 1 group almost missed the summit because of weather.

In 2009 we stared to price our tours in Rubles. That means that the price is fixed and constant in Rubles only while in other currencies (USD or Euro) it changes every day according to current exchange rates. The rate is fixed on the day of payment. Here below is the exact price that was in Rubles. To give you an idea of prices in USD and Euro here are also the equivalents in USD and Euro on the date of a tour started.

2011 year season.
The program assumes Elbrus South side route. In 2011 season the South side area was closed for tourists by authorities.
Because the program was public (everyone can join on departure dates) and many different people from different countries with different interests signed up there was no possibility to achieve agreement regarding changing the program to another route (North route was accessible). That is why all the periods for public groups have been cancelled while many our private (on request) groups were running on the North side during the season.
